Photo of a photo hanging in the Hose Co. No. 3 on Broadway |
We find this photo so amazing and we wonder what stories does it have to tell?
Kinda makes us want to do one of those creative writing lessons where you are a given a photo and asked to write a story about it...
The Opera House was on Main St., and pretty grandiose for the time. While we have a few beauties of the inside, this photo always takes us aback. It's incredible to look at, and sort of makes your heart ache that such a beautiful piece of work and a wondrous piece of history fell prey to a fire. It was March 1, 1922, when the fire started on the upper floors. Firefighters say the building was engulfed and gutted within an hour. It was a freezing cold day, and after the fire was out, all that was left was this ice castle-like image of a once glorious venue. It was never re-built.
What story do you see?
