Super Moon

The moon is within your grasp!
Did you lay down this weekend to go to bed and feel like you left a light on? Or did you think the street lamps were shining right in your windows? That's because this past week end we had a "Super Moon". Where the moon reached perigee, its closest point to Earth in its elliptical orbit.

When the moon is on the perigee side of its orbit, it's about 31,000 miles closer to Earth than it usually is. It usually happens once a year.

We like the Full Moon Info site, run out of Germany, to remind us each month the dates of the full moons. The date of the next one is Monday June 4th 2012. The time is given in European Central Time, so I would guesstimate at about 11:30 our time it will be the fullest too!

Just comment in the "comments" section below this post. Look below, it will say:

Pike's Peak

View from HWY 50 & McCulloch PW.
This won't be the only post of Pike's Peak. It still catches our breath on a clear day. We like to be surprised how you just can't miss the view from different parts of the city.

Launch of "Front Door Fridays"!

Let's kick off "Front Door Friday" with ours!

When I was at Clemson, we had this project where we had to design and then print a lithograph (using a a litho  press bigger than bus!). It was to be inspired by a poster of choice, but translated into our own interpretation.

Some students did remakes of those famous 70's ones with the animals and a catch phrase, like the cat stuck a tree saying "Hang in there", some did nature, "pin ups" or cars.

Mine was the "Doors of Clemson".  It was the front doors of all the historical buildings on campus - Inspired by posters you may have seen in the more touristy areas of different cities, though specifically the historical doors of Charleston.

Our "Masthead"

We've had a few questions about our blog masthead. You know, the header at the top?
Those urns and gargoyle/eagle(?) are beautiful aren't they? I grew up looking at these from practically our front yard every day, so it was a natural choice. Though the header may change with the seasons, for now it was the perfect fit. These statues are at the entrance of City Park. If someone knows about their history, please comment and let us all know. They are very old and I don't know the last time they have been painted, but up close, you can see they are peeling- which I think ads to their beauty. Some people would use the words "peeling"  and "tarnished". Here at "Picture A Day" we say they are perfectly "PATINA".  : )

60, 70, 75, 44, 34

Aberdeen Neighborhood Adopt-a-Park volunteers planted over 1,000 bulbs last fall.
This week shows them breaking ground. Yeah! It worked!
Do a drive by the 3 small parks in a few weeks to view them in full bloom!
What are those numbers? 60, 70, 75, 44, 34. No, not a lock combination or winning lotto numbers. Its the Weather Channel's forecast for Pueblo this week. Crazy right? Starting out the week working in our yards wearing shorts, and ending it up bundled up and sledding. That's Springtime in Pueblo for you.
Our picture today highlights some signs of spring we have been spying. What signs of Spring are you seeing?

A sign of Spring?

The Spring Runoff 5k, 10k run/walk was this weekend.
Is it that time of year already?
