We Never Get Tired of These

We saw this sizable guy, and his friends in the Beulah Cemetery, in Beulah, Colorado (yes, Pueblo County!)
Like we've said here before, yes we know deer are a very common animal here in Colorado, but we never get tired of seeing them appear in our presence. It's always exciting and magical. Do you ever shout, (yes, shout, because you get excited to be the first spotter),  Shh! Don't move! Look! There's a deer! And usually more are to follow?

We're Not Alone

Its interesting, the tracks you see in freshly fallen snow. We see man made tracks and we wonder who in the world was out in this weather even earlier than us. Then we happen upon tracks like these, and want to follow them. These deer tracks are becoming more common along some Goodnight Ave side streets. It seems the wildlife comes up from the river for a visit while we are sleeping.

More Wildlife...

Yeah, I know. but its Monday morning cut me a bit of slack!

Not exactly wildlife, these little guys still have a little story.
Like the deer in a previous post, I really did almost run into (step on) this little family. I was at the "jog" part of my "wog" and as I came around the corner of this rock wall, I found this little group under foot. Good thing I am graceful and light on my feet. I didn't step on any of them, nor fall and break my arm like it probably looked like I was doing if you were one of the many passing cars.

All around the city's parks and lakes you can see tiny baby chicks that just hatched. This little mother had a total of 10 babies and it is why I is stopped - She was separated from the other 5 and she was frantically trying to get to them.  They had squeezed under a fence that she couldn't fit through and she was in a panic to find them. She was scurrying around my feet as if asking for my help, so I tried to lift the fence for her but it wouldn't lift out of the ground.  I tired to make a hole but she still wouldn't fit. There was not a gate to be found! Her panic was growing as she could hear in the trees beyond, the rest of her clan peeping for her. I had to step out and field traffic for her as she weaved in and out of cars with little babies staying close to her side! Finally though, I had had enough of the nonsense! With a very busy day ahead of me and eager to get going, I flagged down a zoo employee, about 1 block away, arriving for his morning duties. I relayed the story to him. He oddly (lol) didn't looked as concerned as I was, however, he promised to go have a look and help them.

Another lap through the park to verify the zoo man's promise showed he was sincere and did indeed reunite the family...Aw come on! You would have done the same thing if they were cheeping at YOUR feet!

Singing in the Rain

Or to be more accurate, Singing in the Drizzle. We only got touch of rain compared to the surrounding counties, but temps were much cooler this weekend keeping us outdoors the majority of both days. This week promises more heat. If you haven't yet, get your sprinklers ready!

Quiet Excitement

One of two deer on the loose in Aberdeen.

Our family, when we are out for drives in the mountains, has an on going bet to see who can spot the first signs of wildlife.

Well, today I win a dollar and it was in the middle of town!

This not so little guy and I literally almost ran into each other this morning. Out for my usual walk/jog (aka the "wog"), with music blaring through my headphones, I saw in the distance something running straight towards me!

I thought it was just one of the many dogs that barked at me along my route.  It wasn't till I got closer that it's size startled me. At first I thought it was the Great Dane I had passed in the park, but then quickly realized it was even too big for a dog! I slowed, preparing to flee in the other direction when my eyes finally focused on this majestic looking deer.

I scared him too.

As soon as his eyes focused on me, (he probably wasn't wearing his glasses either),
he shot a sharp right to turn into a nearby driveway.
But then, curiously he stopped and just stood there looking at me.

I wondered why he stood there. Usually they get scared and run off. I sensed his hesitation to run. Was I the "Deer Whisperer"? No. I soon realized I was standing between him and his companion.

Right behind me was another creature as gorgeous and as large as he was.

...And there I was standing in the middle of the street, hardly containing my excitement, scrambling in my pockets for my camera, while frantically, yet quietly, trying to call attention to someone, anyone else, nearby to see.

I know these guys are seen frequently in this neighborhood, and are a dime a dozen around this state, but do you ever notice how excited most of get when we spot one and we have to shout out
"Look! A deer!"?
