Make up my mind!

Well, we all know we need the moisture, so this is not really a complaint, but rather a "yep, this is Pueblo weather for ya" - and when you see it in print, you realize it's a bit crazy, so we had to take this snippet for the next few days' forecast for you. 

Are we going to heatstroke or freeze? Do we drag all our plants out to enjoy the sun or keep them in for protection? Snow shovel or rake? Hey, on the upside, will this help temper moth season with one last freeze?

Ghostly Fire

This is actually a photo of a historic photo. The faint ghosted images are live images at the old Fire station No. 3  Museum on Broadway ave. If you are milling about one afternoon and see their doors open, stop in for some neat historical stories and equipment. Some of which we will highlight here, as they make for very interesting pic.The actual photo itself was taken by a fire fighter more than 40 years ago. Trivia for you- of course the building was totaled, but can you place where in town this was?

Pinecone

We like this work of art, along the creative corridor, as it reminds us of a big happy pine cone. Though perhaps the artist may have had something else in mind when crafting these bronze looking disc objects into this easy on the eye creation.

Perks of the Season

Artichokes, Yea!

These lovelies can now be found at local grocery stores. We snapped these up at the south side King Soopers. Though, we are enjoying them so much as decor, that we keep forgetting to eat them!

Not Quite

Yep. Still snow. But like we are all saying. "we need the moisture!" As we stare out the window planning our gardens....

Who says you can't grow Meyer lemons in Pueblo? Well, like we said above, almost.....

With the freezing temps and wind and flurries, can you believe this butterfly was still out and about?

Dragons

These Dragons were found perching in a curious spot. On U.S. 50 out in the Mesa in front of, and behind the Mi Ranchito restaurant. Very cool. Also, if you haven't tried their buffet, you need to head out there. It's very good, like a home cooked meal. On the Friday we were there, they had a magician roaming the crowd delighting the diners.

Turn Around

We didn't know it till we stopped for a quick rest on our hike up the Tower Trail, but this was the view behind us most of the way. Yes, the Tower Trail in the Pueblo Mountain Park in Beulah - Pueblo County!

Puppy Power

This little chocolate lab cutie is via the Bids for Kids Auction that will be held this weekend at the Pueblo Union Depot. She, along with DOC training and grooming sessions will be up for bid at the auction. She is so cute, she is making us think we could use a pup here at the studios!

Keep Your Eye on the Ball

 Sitting in the mid-town parking lot while running an especially boring errand, we spied this neat structures atop the Apria building, and tried to imagine them in our garden.

An Unexpected Sight

Runners, Hiker, Walkers, or Joggers got an unexpected sight if they were along the river trail at the Rock Canon Park area this past weekend. In the clearing of the parking lot they came up on Bishop Isern giving Mass to the participants of the Run with the Saints event. We spied an especially cute alter boy, who was deemed the "Keeper of the Hat".

Mother Nature is not quite ready to do away with the frost, as we saw on Tuesday. The blizzard may not have been as strong around town as other places the temperatures still kept us huddled in doors!

On a Blustery Day

Like Pike's Peak views, we can't get enough of these either. On days like these, homemade bread seems to keep wandering in to our PPAD studios.

The Peak

We love to see the many different views all over the city of Pike's Peak. They are like all the smoke stacks around town- they make it feel like you're home.

Incognito

At first glance, any hiker would have walked right on by. If you are a "geo cacher", you would have found your treasure! Though we do admit, we didn't find our treasure due to our keen geo caching skills, though they got us close. No, it was sheer awe in nature at perfect log that made us pick this one up, and viola! It was our hidden box! And we can only tell you this baby can be found on the Northside.

Frozen View

Yes, we know, you can see them from almost everywhere, and they are so Pueblo. But, each time you may see them, the stacks scattered around the city may have a new frame.

We couldn't help notice all the green food we've been seeing lately. Surely a sign of St. Patrick's Day this weekend. What green food will you be eating?

Jupiter and 4 Moons

Jupiter and 4 moons 3/13/13. The camera quality blurs the 4th moon.

We are excited and amazed to show you today's picture. While searching for the Comet PannStarrs, it was determined at that time to be a bit too overcast. So instead, a lovely gentleman from the Southern Colorado Astronomy Society pointed his telescope to Jupiter for us. Now mind you, this photo was taken through the telescope lens with an ipod. He helped me hold it in place- both lenses were tiny in the dark and hard to align, so as he held it, I snapped the picture, and viola! Well, viola! aside from that I was actually trying to use my iphone camera which was a bit sharper, but me being me, the battery went dead as we were trying to align the lenses. So, while this photo is still amazing, let me fill in the blanks. What we were actually able to see was even the brownish, reddish/white bands, and the "great red spot". Jupiter was tilted to the side, along with 4 of its aprox. 63 moons. Totally clear, brilliantly bright. Breathtaking.

The Walk

We liked the angle of the sign and buildings in shot of the River Walk Information Center from the bridge above.

Mini Stonehenge

Minding our own business (sorta) in the outskirts of the USC parking lot we came upon these neat stone arrangements. See the white ones in the background too? They look like snow, but they are white rock. In the warmer months, we'd guess its a nice sitting area, with a man made spring running through it.

Quaint Factor

Its fun to see charming touches tucked here and there around town.  This carriage stop sign can be spotted around Victoria and Union Ave.

Creative Copter

On Teddy's big day today, we let him pick the photo, and he stayed true to our young audience.

Masterpieces come in all different genres. Today we thought we'd showcase these lego type creations that are all the rage with the young set. They even have clubs, meeting groups and displays at the libraries where kids can go to explore their creativity.

Naturally Distressed

We like the distressed look of the wood on this outdoor "wainscoting" over on union Ave. While we go through the rigors of sanding in our studio, this perfect weathering happened naturally.

Wilbur in Green

This lovely creation is yet another, familiar work by local artist John Wilbur. Set along the creative corridor, we spotted it by the ice arena.

This little guy kept a close eye on us in the Aberdeen neighborhood.

4 Stories High

As you may heard us say before, any view from the Rawlings Library is a great view. If you are lucky enough to be browsing books when it snows, you feel like you are in a snow globe.
We liked this view of Union Ave. from the 4th floor. We put our toes right up to the edge and looked down. It reminded us that a picture is worth 1,000 words. What story can you make up about the view?

Days Gone By

I know for a minute you thought you were really looking at a street snapshot of downtown, but you aren't. This mini rendition of the now defunct Pueblo Star Journal, the once thriving evening edition newspaper, can be seen on display in the Rawlings Library InfoZone.

Silly Things ( or my first thought: Really?)

Do some things ever just make you giggle? Or you just kinda wonder what the the thought process was behind someone else's action? Like for instance I was minding my own business when I happened to pass by this microscope with a Cheeto on it.

Race Car

This little guy can be seen speeding down Joplin Ave. over on the East side. I am told its a bench for people to sit and watch box car races. I always thought it was a bus stop!

Sure Shot

I keep calling these cannon balls, but they are actually historical shells used by the U.S. Army at one time. They are mounted, but hidden in a bush off Main. St.

We Never Get Tired of These

We saw this sizable guy, and his friends in the Beulah Cemetery, in Beulah, Colorado (yes, Pueblo County!)

Like we've said here before, yes we know deer are a very common animal here in Colorado, but we never get tired of seeing them appear in our presence. It's always exciting and magical. Do you ever shout, (yes, shout, because you get excited to be the first spotter),  Shh! Don't move! Look! There's a deer! And usually more are to follow?

We're No Experts

But these prints in Beulah kept us cautious as we walked through the mountainous town cemetery.

Sundial

Traipsing about through the Beulah Cemetery, we came upon this historical sundial. We didn't want to disturb the nice glaze of and ice and snow to investigate further, but the plaque on the side tells us it used to be at the John Burns Saw and Grist Mill. Anyone old enough to remember it?

Yes, we are still searching for color

This balloon dart throw game at a local festival will have to do for now. Surely soon things will be livening up outdoors though, we heard the birds singing extra loudly this morning.

Sea Life Fossil Discovery

Truthfully, we weren't exactly in some under sea, undiscovered fossil bed. We were actually downstairs at Pueblo Bank and Trust waiting in line to use the coin counting machine. While sitting there on the bench, we realized we were surrounded by these little sea fossils in the rocks that lined the wall. A most interesting place to discover such a thing....

Happy Valentines Day

We saw these sweet hearts at St. Therese Catholic School's Mardi Gras Festival over the weekend. We noticed they are especially sweet because the Valentines were made by hand, and made with love.

Crazy 8

If you didn't get enough of dry, gray, gnarled trees yesterday, here is more for you. Though, this caught our eye because it looks like the tree grew in the shape of the number 8. You can see it on Hwy 92, off Santa Fe Ave, as if you were heading toward Blend and took a left. You know, by the old animal shelter.

Smoke Stacks Abound

If you are facing south, you can see these, and many other stacks from almost every view. We liked this view from Plaza Verde Park on the city's East side of town.

Edison Bulb

Have you seen these vintage looking light bulbs yet? This particular one if from Home Depot, but they are becoming the fashion in light bulbs - if there is such a thing? Either way you can see the lighted squiggles through the clear glass, just as light bulbs were made back in the day. They give your space a nice calming glow.

Cozy Camouflage?

This rather large nest, seen at the Morton Elementary park, was is inhabited. Perhaps the warmer days have fooled the resident to stay home for the winter.

Tiki

This happy dude is grinning a mile wide. Not sure if he beckons people into to the tavern where he perches or if he means good luck, but his bright red and gold cannot be missed on a cruise down Main st.

A Lift of Color

As we may have mentioned before, one of the challenges of bringing a picture a day is the lack of color during the winter. Its seems through the camera lens everything is a shade of gray or brown. Well, not so at this neat little park tucked away off Ash on the East side of town. On a recent geocaching quest we were welcomed with blazes of color from the murals painted by Anthony Armijo at Plaza Verde Park.

Snow Fort

We thought, blanketed in snow, the water slide at the City Park Pool looks more like a fort that beckons you to come and explore, rather than the summer cool off spot.
